Nuts and
Bolts
The main focus of our ministry is to send Bible
correspondence studies to inmates. We maintain an active enrollment of around 2,000 prisoners throughout the
nation. In a given year many more than that number go through the program each
year since there is a continual turn-over of students.
The program provided
to the prisoners includes 33 study
books by reputable Bible scholars.
Several of these books are printed by Exodus with permission. A
certificate is
awarded to each prisoner after each study is completed, and a diploma and
study Bible are awarded for completion of the whole course. A
new
prisoner that enrolls that doesn't have a Bible is sent a New Testament or used Bible. Other
Christian reading material (such as printed sermons, devotional booklets,
quarterlies, etc.) are sent for the prisoners to keep.
We maintain a resource
library at our main facility that is geared toward providing
prisoners with materials that will assist them with problems of daily living,
and provide them with supplemental reading materials that are focused on
augmenting their discipleship. We also collect new and
used Bibles, Christian books, tapes and videos to ship to Chaplains
for their libraries in prisons, jails, and youth detention centers.
Exodus hosts a Bible Study
Support Group for ex-offenders and families of inmates in the Lubbock
area. The group receives spiritual training, encouragement and
information in these sessions. Two mothers of inmates have been saved in these
meetings.
Exodus publishes The Exodus
Epistle newsletter. Scripture birthday cards
and Christmas greetings and Scripture calendars are sent to
prisoners.
The Exodus Prayer Intercessors
Group meets on Wednesdays to pray for
students, needs of the ministry, and all requests received that
week.
The Exodus Office is open 5 days a week. All work is done by volunteers, most of whom are
seniors. Besides over 35 regular workers, high school youths
occasionally assist. Exodus operates on donations from individuals, churches
and small groups. |
